This course provides an overview of the concepts, theories, and research in language acquisition with an emphasis on second language acquisition. Special attention is paid to the linking of theories with current practices in English language teaching.

CILO-1: Identify key Second Language Acquisition (SLA) terms and L1/L2 differences.
CILO-2: Trace SLA history and continuities of the relevant research agenda.
CILO-3: Explain the major schools of theories in second language acquisition: linguistic, psychological, interactionist, sociolinguistic, and sociocultural.
CILO-4: Discuss some important concepts and particular theories concerning second language acquisition.
CILO-5: Indicate the practical implications of the major theories in teaching practice.
