Course Description
This course aims to help students understand the general law of the human education system. From historical, theoretical and practical perspectives, the course explores
(1) the fundamentals of education,
(2) the relationship between education and social, political, economic and cultural developments,
(3) the relationship between education and human physical and mental developments,
(4) education purposes (teleology), and
(5) the relationship between teachers and learners. It also discusses issues about education systems/structure, curriculum and instruction, moral education, educational management, etc.
Intended Learning Outcomes
CILO-1: Acquire knowledge of major social, historical, philosophical, curricular and legal developments of education.
CILO-2: Recognize the organization, operation and administration of education systems as well as key political, socioeconomic and cultural forces underlying the changing dynamics of school education.
CILO-3: Distinguish concepts, assumptions, applications and limitations of various teaching and learning theories plus identify strategies and obstacles in the implementation of effective teaching and learning principles in the classroom.
CILO-4: Analyze and write papers with a critical perspective on how to facilitate and enhance educational outcome by applying theoretical concepts or reflecting upon one’s own experiences of teaching and learning.
