Course Description
The popularity of the Internet and emerging interactive telecommunication services have made multimedia a topic of interest. This course is designed to take a serious look, from both academic and professional perspectives, at the foundations and principles behind development and production processes from inception (developing the concept) to completion (hands-on production, testing, and distribution) in this new entertainment and information medium.
Intended Learning Outcomes
CILO-1: Identify key points of the meaning of social media, information technologies and their uses in contemporary mediatized societies and cultures.
CILO-2: Discuss key points of the course literature as well as independently find additional literature relevant for the course, collect empirical material and use theories discussed in the course for future research.
CILO-3: Evaluate the empirical work, the study of social networks, and research that address sociological research questions related to new media and communication.
CILO-4: Summarize the emerging methodological approaches in the Internet and new media studies, such as the use of platforms, algorithms, agency, affordance, production, and digital labor, etc.
