Course Description
This course is designed to introduce the basic concepts and logic of communication theories with a specific emphasis on linking theoretical concepts to applied communication practices and issues. It serves three inter-related objectives. First, it aims at providing the students critical perspectives of communication problems. Second, it attempts to draw connections between theoretical concepts and practices in various applied areas, including news and entertainment production, advertising, public relations, and public information. Third, it prepares students to approach other courses in the programme and their final graduation project.
Intended Learning Outcomes
CILO-1: Identity key points of communication theories in various contexts and scenarios.
CILO-2: Apply advanced analytical and critical thinking skills to effectively evaluate the complexities of mass communication processes, practices, and impacts on society.
CILO-3: Examine and interpret the dynamic relationships between target audiences, media content, and forms of mass communication, taking into account the roles of culture, identity, and power in shaping these interactions.
CILO-4: Apply communication theories and analytical skills to assess and critique diverse media formats, genres, and communication strategies in relation to their intended purposes, target audiences, and societal effects.
