The course investigates the processes political candidates and the mass media employ to generate and disseminate political narratives. It explores how political communication and mass media shape the political process and political outcomes: do they contribute – positively or negatively – to the quality of democracy, or do they not make a difference at all?
Intended Learning Outcomes
CILO-1: Identify and explain key concepts in political communication and apply that knowledge to communicative situations occurring in the public sphere.
CILO-2: Recognize and demonstrate how political candidates and elected officials employ and are constrained by communication.
CILO-3: Take a position on an issue of political communication or public diplomacy, and construct an argumentation substantiating their position, based on academic literature.
CILO-4: Apply theories of political communication and adopt a critical stance towards contemporary politics, media and public opinion.
