Course Description
This course covers the basic elements of crisis communication and the procedures for creating and implementing communication plans when crisis occurs. It examines different types of crises in commercial corporations and non-profit organizations. It explores pitfalls of crisis communications, teaches crisis prevention and resolution, and addresses ethical issues.
Intended Learning Outcomes
CILO-1: Explain what crises are, and how to communicate and manage crises effectively; effects of crisis communication and management.
CILO-2: Familiarize with the literature on the subject.
CILO-3: Apply relevant theories and concepts in analyzing crisis cases.
CILO-4: Demonstrate understanding on the roles that strategic public relations plays in managing and communicating crises, which contributes to the reduction of the crises occurrences, as well as the function of public relations prior, during and post crises.
CILO-5: Diagnose crisis vulnerabilities and suggesting ways to prevent crises.
CILO-6: Differentiate between different crisis types and responding with appropriate procedures.
CILO-7: Manage media relations and functioning as an effective spokesperson.
CILO-8: Construct a workable crisis communication and management plan.
CILO-9: Assess and evaluate the effects of crisis communication and management.
