The course provides a theoretical and practical discussion of the history, aesthetics, genres, and practice of documentary in contemporary society. By highlighting the director/producers’ role in the process of production, students are encouraged to examine various visual elements of documentary and develop skills by engaging in documentary production.
Intended Learning Outcomes
CILO-1: Complete a 15 minute documentary project, shoot, record sound, and edit their own film on a topic or social issue relevant to themselves and the larger Macao society.
CILO-2: Apply approaches to visual storytelling and use it in their own productions.
CILO-3: Research a topic and apply this research to their own documentary projects.
CILO-4: Integrate history of documentary filmmaking and use its various traditions and methods to consider ethical questions around representation.
CILO-5: Light, shoot and interview subjects in the studio and on location.
