This course will introduce students to the essential concepts and principles of drug discovery. It covers the latest and most outstanding developments on the medicinal chemistry and pharmacology of molecular drug targets, e.g. disease specific proteins, receptors, enzymes, and genes. This course also includes descriptions of current techniques in isolation and structural elucidation, screening techniques and high-capacity instrumentation for increased productivity in the development and discovery of new drugs. CILO-1: Describe the drug discovery models, platforms and methods for identifying and designing new drugs. CILO-2: Describe the classical and most current targets for drug discovery. CILO-3: Apply the knowledge learned to solve real-world problems in drug discovery.
