Course Description
The core functionality of an effective pharmaceutical system are driven by the widespread use and the speedy innovation of pharmaceutical products, as well as the evolving development and application of pharmaceutical services. This prompts an increasing need for individuals who are able to evaluate and leverage the social, psychosocial, political, legal, historic and economic factors impinging upon the availability, accessibility, affordability and acceptability of such products and services. To address such need, this course is designed to equip students with the abilities to apply interdisciplinary theories, knowledge and skills to pharmacy problem solving and pharmaceutical system development for positions of responsibilities and leadership in such sectors as industry, clinical setting, government agencies and educational institutions.
Intended Learning Outcomes
CILO-1: Describe key concepts of the constructs of social and administrative pharmacy.
CILO-2: Articulate how knowledge about the pharmaceutical legislation and regulation, pharmaceutical financing, and pharmacy-related research is integral to the decision-making in social and administrative pharmacy; evaluation of key features and future advances in pharmacy; supporting pharmacy initiative; and pharmacy practice.
CILO-3: Integrate knowledge from pharmacoepidemiology and public health, health-system pharmacy administration, and industrial pharmacy to explain patient choice of medication therapies, medication adherence, adverse medication events; practitioners’ provisions of care relating to the quality use of medicines; and the effectiveness and efficiency of a pharmaceutical system.
CILO-4: Apply knowledge in the social and administrative pharmacy to solve medicine-related problems and advance patient-centered care and population-based care.
CILO-5: Identify and assimilate emerging theories, information, and technologies relating to social and administrative pharmacy.
CILO-6: Analyze evidence from practice, research, and professional experiences related to medicines and pharmacy for problem-solving in the healthcare systems.
