This course will introduce basic chemistry, biology knowledge and fundamental pharmaceutical concepts, which will help students to understand how pharmaceutical science, technologies and new excipients can be used to improve drug safety and efficacy in drug development. It will provide an overview on how to make rational dosage from design, what dosage forms and technology could be utilized in different delivery routes, as well as the formulation and modernization of Chinese Medicine. Nanoparticle drug delivery systems for cancer and other diseases therapy will also be discussed. Pre-requisite: None

CILO-1: Describe rational dosage form design and various drug delivery routes. CILO-2: Memorise strategies and technologies utilized on delivery of poorly water-soluble drugs. CILO-3: Explain principles and development on topical and pulmonary drug delivery. CILO-4: Summarise nanoparticle drug delivery systems for cancer and other diseases therapy. CILO-5: Demonstrate formulation, excipients and technologies on TCM product development.
