Course Description
This course provides understanding on the physical processes in the coastal regions, where between the continental slope of marginal sea and land. The course starts with basic principle of the current and mass transport, then towards their applications in coastal marine system, which including the features of estuary circulation, shelf Ekman current, tide, geostrophic effect and the underlying forcing mechanisms. The formation of storm surge and the disaster prevention in the coastal regions will be introduced.
Intended Learning Outcomes
CILO-1: Develop students with an ability to identify the major coastal fluid phenomenon by using the theories in fluid dynamics.
CILO-2: Develop students with an ability to state the main ideas about the power of abstraction and generalization, and to develop students with an ability to carry out investigative mathematical work with independent judgment.
CILO-3: Develop students with an ability to apply analytic approach to analyze the problems of coastal fluid dynamics and related oceanic disasters.
