Course Description
It is a beginning level course for the preparation of other intermediate courses in solid and fluid mechanics. It introduces the basic concepts, tools and methods for rigid bodies, such as forces, moments, free body diagram, equilibrium, supports, reactions, internal forces and moments, truss, frame, shear force and bending moment diagram, etc.
Intended Learning Outcomes
CILO-1: Mathematically describe equilibrium state on rigid body, as well as the basic theory of equilibrium analysis.
CILO-2: Establish the mathematical equilibrium relationships among external forces and moments on engineering components of rigid bodies.
CILO-3: Apply different methods to analyze the equilibrum analyis for rigid bodies.
CILO-4: Apply different methods to analyze the internal forces and moment for engineering components of rigid body.
CILO-5: Interpret and create shear force diagram and bending moment diagram for engineering components of rigid body; and get prepared for future study in material mechanics and structural mechanics.
