Course Description
Modeling and simulation is an important tool for representing, analyzing and solving real-world problems. The application areas include computer game, computer hardware and network simulation, business process, transportation, health care and risk analysis, etc. This course aims at teaching the basic concepts and methods in developing simulation models of discrete event dynamic and stochastic systems. Topics will include stochastic modeling, random number generators, discrete-event simulation approaches, and simulated data analysis.
Intended Learning Outcomes
CILO-1: Apply statistical models, including stochastic variables, discrete and continuous probability functions, in the design of computer games, networking and business process simulations.
CILO-2: Construct simulation models of discrete, dynamic and stochastics systems, based on a given set of data, and analyse the output produced to test their validity.
CILO-3: Develop, execute, verify, and validate simulation models in Arena simulation software platform.
CILO-4: Work effectively in a multi-disciplinary team to develop simulation models for real-world problems.
