Course Description
This course is crucial as it prepares PhD students for diverse career paths, enhances their research and communication skills, and ensures they are well-equipped for the job market and responsible research practices. This course will address issues of professional development with specific attention to cross-disciplinary research in Cognitive and Brain Sciences. It will introduce career paths in different academic and non-academic institutions, the writing of journal articles and grant proposals, and demystify the grant and journal review process. It will also cover how to acquire skill in formal presentations at conferences, how to develop collaborations, how to seek mentoring advice and how to provide mentoring advice to the students, and how to best prepare for the job market. The course will also provide training in the responsible conduct of research. Lastly, the course will feature guest speakers from both academia and industry. These experts will share their research interests and career paths, providing valuable insights and inspiration for students.
Intended Learning Outcomes
CILO-1: Students will be able to synthesize theories and methodologies from multiple disciplines to address challenges in cross-disciplinary research within cognitive and brain sciences.
