Course Description
This course introduces to students the philosophical principles of the history of economic thought, and discusses economists’ changing ideologies in revealing the economic societies across the different eras.
Topics to be covered include the ancient and medieval thoughts about a society’s material well-beings; the evolving thoughts from pre-classical and classical economics to marginalism and neoclassical economics; the standpoints of socialism, the significance of institutional economics and new classicism.
Intended Learning Outcomes
CILO-1: Describe and explain the dynamics and contextual settings which lead to the changing ideologies of economists in revealing the economic societies across the different eras.
CILO-2: Examine and assess if and how various economic principles/theories can possibly be applied to the studies of the contemporary economic/business phenomena under different regional contexts.
CILO-3: Examine and assess if and how various economic principles/theories can possibly be applied to the studies of the contemporary economic/business phenomena in a global context.
CILO-4: Exhibit positive learning attitude and involvement in class discussion.
