Course Description
Broadly speaking, leisure include the provision of such services as recreation, tourism and gaming, etc. The course examines the similarities and differences between the leisure industries and the traditional industries. Factors determining demand, supply and market structure of the leisure industries would be investigated. In addition, global and regional issues associated with future growth and development of these industries will also be explored. Various practical cases will be discussed to enhance students’ understanding of the economic foundation of the leisure industries, as well as to elevate their decision making skills for these service sectors.
Intended Learning Outcomes
CILO-1: Identify, describe and examine the particular social, political and economic foundations for the modern development of the leisure industries, as compared to the traditional industries.
CILO-2: Explain and assess the particular role of income and time in the demand for leisure.
CILO-3: Explain and assess the particular role of technology in the demand for and supply of leisure.
CILO-4: Examine and appraise the upsides and downsides of the global leisure industries.
CILO-5: Demonstrate the ability to discuss the academic and business literature released for the leisure industries.
CILO-6: Develop the critical thinking skill to judge the prospects of some existing and new leisure industries.
