Course Description
This course is a combination of economics and real world. It applies various basic economic theories to analyze various contemporary global economic issues which enables students to better understand the relation between economic knowledge and the goal of mankind: achieving prosperity. The lecture topics include Economic Growth, Poverty, Financial Crisis, Resources, Environment, Climate Change, Trade and the emerging of China.
Intended Learning Outcomes
CILO-1: Familiarize the student with essential economic issues at the global level. To help the students for a habit to read international economic related news and issues.
CILO-2: Ensure that the student is equipped with the tools and knowledge necessary to engage in informed economic discussions about the issue at hand. By delving into the economic theories and principles underlying the issue, to give the student a solid foundation for analyzing and evaluating economic arguments.
CILO-3: Provide the student with the analytical tools they need to critically examine the economic issue at hand. By using the tools of economics to analyze the issue from different angles, to cultivate the student's ability to identify underlying assumptions, evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of different economic arguments, and ultimately arrive at a well-supported conclusion.
CILO-4: By encouraging them to ask probing questions, to identify gaps in knowledge or analysis, and to articulate their own perspectives clearly and persuasively, to help the student become a more effective and influential voice in economic discussions.
