Course Description
Brief introduction of solid-state physics and crystallography, followed by a major focus on the knowledge of semiconductor physics with topics including electronic states in semiconductors, defects in semiconductors, the carrier transportation in semiconductors, unbalanced carriers in semiconductors and semiconductor junctions, via both classroom teaching and lab exercises.
Intended Learning Outcomes
CILO-1: Explain the formation of energy bands and describe the motion of electrons in semiconductors.
CILO-2: Explain the defect levels in semiconductors and calculate the carrier distribution in the equilibrium state.
CILO-3: Explain the conductive mechanism of semiconductors, especially the scattering mechanism.
CILO-4: Describe the carrier distribution in semiconductors by continuity equation in the general state.
CILO-5: Draw the band diagram of pn junction and MS junction, and explain their working mechanisms.
