Course Description
This course addresses the basic concepts of chemistry through lectures and laboratory experiments. Topics include: atoms and molecules, periodic table, electronic structure, chemical bonding, chemical reactions, electrochemistry, and organic chemistry.
Intended Learning Outcomes
CILO-1: Describe the fundamental concepts of the structure of an atom.
CILO-2: Use the relationship between electron configuration and chemical properties tabulated in a periodic table to solve chemistry problems.
CILO-3: Recognize the different bonding types and their application in organic chemistry.
CILO-4: Recognize different states of matters, i.e. gas, liquid, & solids.
CILO-5: Interpret the concepts of chemical rates and equilibrium, and their applications, e.g. in acidity, in electrochemistry.
CILO-6: Describe basic concepts in organic chemistry.
CILO-7: Identify and practice safe operation in laboratory.
CILO-8: Demonstrate the concepts of using scare resources to make useful products.
