Course Description
This course focuses on the teaching and learning of specific language skills, broadly reading, writing, listening and speaking. There is also coverage of discrete subskills, such as pronunciation, or reading and listening for gist and detail, and discussion of process and product-oriented perspectives on writing and speaking. Students consider different approaches to the teaching of skills and evaluate and design tasks that promote skills development.
Intended Learning Outcomes
CILO-1: Recognize and describe different approaches to the teaching of the ‘four language skills’ i.e. reading, writing, listening and speaking, and selected subskills such as pronunciation, skimming for gist, scanning for detail, etc.
CILO-2: Recognize and describe process and product-based approaches to the teaching and learning of writing and speaking.
CILO-3: Evaluate published course materials and devise classroom activities intended to promote the acquisition of the language skills.
