This course aims to familiarize students with the differences between Portuguese and English languages, to learn the nature, methods, standards and common translation techniques, to engage in extensive translation practice and learn how to translate different types of texts. Students will focus on how to determine the meaning of words from context, how to choose the most reasonable interpretation in the target language, and to deal flexibly with long sentences.

CILO-1: Translate different types of texts, such as journalistic, literary, economic and political texts. CILO-2: Choose appropriate translation methods based on a correct interpretation of the original text. CILO-3: Employ appropriate methods to translate Portuguese texts of different difficulties into English with accurate and fluent language. CILO-4: Adapt translations according to the characteristics of different texts.
