This course is designed to provide students with training in conference interpreting, which includes both simultaneous interpreting and consecutive interpreting. Major trends of traditional and contemporary translation theories and principles will be introduced. Practical targeted progressive exercises on essential skills will be conducted in laboratories. Students will be introduced to internationally accepted codes of conduct for interpreters and conference management and gain hands on experience through guided in-house or external assignments, including field trips. Students will be encouraged to look at existing theories and methods of training critically with the aim of developing more effective strategies. The course will also introduce students to topics and methods in interpreting studies with the aim of helping students acquire research methods, identify research topics and develop research projects in interpreting.

CILO-6: Perform consecutive interpreting and simultaneous interpreting with confidence. CILO-7: Identify his/her own strengths and areas where further learning and development may be required. CILO-8: Host a multilingual event onsite/online. CILO-9: Identify his/her own strengths and areas where further learning and development may be required. CILO-10: Identify possible career directions related to the conference and exhibition industry.
