Course Description
This course focuses on the consecutive mode of interpreting. Traditional and contemporary translation/interpreting principles will be introduced. Practical targeted progressive exercises on essential skills will be conducted in laboratories. This course aims to help students acquire the essential skills for consecutive interpreting, become acquainted with the consecutive interpreting process, understand the role of the consecutive interpreter in the local and global contexts, understand the pros and cons of remote consecutive interpreting, explore how modern technologies will help improve performance, identify areas for progression and identify possible career paths. Students will be encouraged to look at existing theories and methods of training critically with the aim of developing more effective strategies. The course will also introduce students to topics and methods in interpreting studies with the aim of helping students acquire research methods, identify research topics and develop research projects in interpreting.
